It was definitely a day of upsets when some of the big names who played on the US Open 2009 met their downfall against some relatively unknown tennis players.

US Open 2009 Results. Andy Roddick had a four-hour battle against the 6-foot 9-inch John Isner. Isner owned Roddick in the first two sets but Roddick came fighting back but in the end, Isner prevailed. The score -  7-6 (3), 6-3, 3-6, 5-7, 7-6 (5).

Maria Sharapova, a former World Number 1, took on Melanie Oudin and faced a huge lost to this ‘giant killer’. Oudin celebrated victory with scores - 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Last but not the least, the World Number 1 Dinara Safina bowed down to an unknown player named Petra Kvitova. Despite the huge defeat, Safina still remains as the Number 1 player though. Scores - 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (5).
